Frequently Asked Questions
Kitchen and Bar Sinks by Blanco
What kind of stainless steel does Blanco use?
All Blanco stainless steel sinks are created with 304 Series Stainless Steel. This "surgical grade" material is non-porous, hygienic, rust-free, and extremely durable. This stainless steel is the best available for residential utilization.
What is signified by the "gauge" of stainless steel?
The gauge is the thickness of stainless steel. Contrary to what might seem logical, a lower gauge number denotes a thicker type of stainless steel than a higher number. For example, an 18 gauge sink has thicker (and better) stainless steel than a 20 gauge sink. Most Blanco stainless steel sinks are 18 gauge.
What does chrome-nickel content mean?
Chrome-nickel content refers to the percentage of each material in the stainless steel. Chrome tends to give the sink luster and durability, while nickel adds hardness and strength. Most Blanco sinks are 18/10 in chrome-nickel content, or 18% chrome and 10% nickel. This happens to be an excellent ratio.
Are there different types of stainless steel finishes?
Yes. Most Blanco sinks have what's called a satin polished finish. This finish has an enduring, easy to clean luster that is impervious to water stains and calcium deposits. Some Blanco sinks feature a satin finish, which has more of a brushed appearance than the satin polished finish.
What is a silgranit sink?
Silgranit is composite material manufactured of 80% rock hard granite and colored throughout. Features include heat resistance up to 536 degrees, and stain, scratch, and chip resistance. The material is easy to clean and maintain.
What is P.V.D?
Physical Vapor Deposition is a method of vaporizing and ionizing high purity metal gases to form a film-like metal coating on Blanco brass sinks and faucets. This purification method creates an exceptional level of resistance to abrasion and chemicals. Brass that has undergone PVD is four times harder than natural brass.
Why are most Blanco sink drains rear-positioned?
Rear sink drains maximize the functional space of your kitchen's sink base cabinet. This drain placement enables drain pipes and garbage disposals to be installed toward the rear of the cabinet, thus maximizing utility.
How do I clean my stainless steel sink?
General Care: After each use, rinse thoroughly and then wipe the sink dry with a clean soft cloth. DO NOT USE ABRASIVE CLEANERS LIKE STEEL WOOL, AS SUCH PRODUCTS WILL TARNISH THE FINISH.
Rust and Stains: Stainless steel does not rust. Blancoclean, Gordon's Miracle Shine, Flitz, and Bar Keepers Friend are all effective at removing tarnish, water stains, and other surface residues.
Scratches: Scratches are inevitable in any sink material. Soft scratches can be softened with a Scotch Brite pad, accompanied with a deep cleansing agent. Be sure to rub vigorously across the entire surface, as the goal is to blend the scratch into the grain of the material. Severe scratches can be treated with a pumice rubbing compound. We highly suggest purchasing a sink grid to protect the bottom of the sink from severe scratching.
How do I clean my silgranit sink?
General Care: Daily cleaning may be made with Blancoclean or baking soda. After each use, rinse the sink dry with a clean soft cloth to eliminate water spots. DO NOT USE ANY ABRASIVE AGENTS OR SCRUB PADS.
Severe Stains: A solution of 50% water and 50% bleach should be used for very tough, stubborn stains. Scrub after allowing the solution to sit in the sink for one hour. After rinsing well, clean with Blancoclean.
Calcium Deposits: If a white ring develops at the bottom of your sink, use Lime Away.
Blanco Faucets
My faucet drips immediately after I turn it off. What is wrong?
Nothing is wrong. It is normal for faucets to drip and steam for up to 20 seconds after flowing. This means that the vacuum breaker and check valve are functioning properly.
How do I clean my faucet?
Clean with a clean, soft, damp cloth. Blot dry as soon as possible. On occasion, apply a non-abrasive polish.
Can a Blanco faucet be installed through thick solid surface tops?
Yes. Our faucets feature a reversible installation hub that can adapt to varying counter thicknesses.
Avante Decorative Hardware
Are there rules regarding when to use handles (pulls) and when to use knobs?
Yes. In your kitchen, it is recommended that you use (1) either ALL knobs or ALL handles OR (2) knobs on the cabinet doors and handles on the cabinet drawers.
How do I know what style and finish to choose?
There is no definite answer to this question. These are generally matters of aesthetic preference. However, we highly recommend that you NOT mix finishes within one room. Further, if you choose to use both knobs and handles, interknobs.com highly suggests that the items come from the same "Category", "Style", and "Family".
What kind of screws do I need to install my hardware?
When you checkout at interknobs.com, you are given the opportunity to indicate the quantity and type of screws you will need to install your new hardware. Generally, the hardware installed on your cabinet doors will require the usage of 1" screws, while that installed on drawers requires thicker, 1.5" screws. Please remember that handles (pulls) require 2 screws per item.
What are the important dimensions I should reference when choosing my new decorative hardware?
When selecting a knob, the most useful dimension is diameter. This refers to the overall size of the widest portion of the item. There are two key dimensions when selecting a handle (pull): center-to-center (C-C) and overall (O/A). C-C refers to the distance between the centers of the two screw holes on the handle. O/A refers to the full length of the handle, which sometimes varies with the C-C dimension.
How do I convert millimeters to inches?
Divide millimeters by 25.4 to convert to inches.
How do I install my hardware?
If you are a homeowner planning to install the hardware yourself, please take advantage of the installation kit available for purchase on interknobs.com.
What should I know about the material composition of the decorative hardware I purchase?
The majority of the knobs and pulls available on interknobs.com are either made of solid brass, zinc, or stainless steel.
Solid Brass: An "enduring metal", highly resistant to corrosion. Because other kitchen/bath fixtures are typically solid brass, the finish applied to your solid brass knobs or pulls will likely provide a closer match to the surrounding fixtures than knobs composed of other raw materials.
Zinc: Easily cast, forged, or stamped. Provides a cost effective alternative to solid brass items.
Stainless Steel: A durable, rust resistant material composed of iron, chrome, and nickel.
